A big THANK YOU! to those who were able to make it to Back to School Night!  We enjoyed seeing you!
We have 3 Take Home Books this week- two titled “Am I?” and “Who Am I?” Please have your child read these with you over the weekend.  This week, we worked on letters F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, and N.  We identified the setting of a story (where it takes place).  We can also find the title, front cover, back cover, and title page of a book.  We also clapped out the syllables (parts) in a word.
In Math, we continued to work on numbers 1-5, know that zero means none, and put numbers 0-5 in order.

We also began to use our Smartboard in the room this week!  It works like a large touch screen. Students can "write" on the board with stylus pens or click or move objects.

September 16th - 20th

Don't Forget! - Back to School Night is Tuesday, September 17th!

Last week, we worked on recognizing and writing letters A, B, C, D, and E.  This week we will move on to letters F, G, H, I, and J.  We learned sight words "I" and "am", and will use "red" this week.  We continue to practice writing our name.  We are finding the characters in a story, identifying the setting (where it takes place), and retelling a story in order.

In Math, we counted groups and wrote numbers 1-5.  We will continue to work on 1-5 this week, and learn about number 0.

Here is a sneak peak at the art project we have been working on.  Be sure to look for your child's at Back to School Night!

September 9th-September 13th

We are so excited to be starting our first full week of school!  We had a great first day on Friday!

This week we will be starting our Language Arts centers in the morning.  Students will have whole-group instruction in phonics, letters, vocabulary, and sight words.  We will also have a read-aloud.  Then we break up into small groups for the rest of the morning.  Students rotate through centers.  I do Guided Reading, reviewing the skills taught in whole group, and practicing those skills in a short story students will read themselves.  Mrs. Banker usually works on phonics, handwriting, or other review games.  Students not working with either of us will rotate between computer center (phonics and letter games, read-along stories), listening center (follow along with a read-aloud CD), letter or word puzzles, writing center (practice letters or words with various materials (stamps, markers, wipe-off tracing, letter tiles), and library center (read quietly to yourself or a friend).

In Math we will work on counting and writing numbers 1-5 this week.  We will begin Math centers next week.
