Hello Families!

Don’t Forget – There is no school on Friday, October 10th or Monday October 13th.

Homework will start on Wednesday this week!  We will have homework on Monday thru Thursday every week!

We are continuing to work on appropriate noise levels in the classroom.  Please practice the difference between a whisper voice, an “inside” voice, and an “outside” voice.  Also, continue to remind your children when adults are talking to the group, they should not be talking to those around them.

Last week in Language Arts we worked on recognizing the letters O, P, Q, R, and S.  We learned the sounds for the letters M and N.  We added the sight words “the”, “little”, “red” and “yellow” to our list.

In Math we continued to work with the numbers 1-5.  We also completed the OREO project!  You can see photos and videos (coming soon!) on missantonsroom.blogspot.com

In Science we continued to read about the seasons and weather, and compared how trees look in the different seasons.

In Social Studies, we read about Johnny Appleseed and taste-tested 4 different types of apples.  We also voted on our favorites.

Have a great week!

The OREO Project

This week our class completed the OREO project.  Our task was to stack as many OREOs as we could without the tower falling down.  We all had two chances to complete the tower.  We had some very impressive towers, but our tallest was built by Jayla with 25 OREOs!  See our photos below. (Videos later!)

Hello Families!

Don’t Forget – If you are ordering from the Scholastic Book Order, I need them no later than Wednesday, the 24th.

This week’s schedule: Monday – Art, Tuesday – Library and Gym, Wednesday – Music, Thursday – Gym, Friday – Art

In Language Arts we worked on letters F, G, H, I, J, K, L, and M.  We learned the sounds for letters T, B, and F (Sound cards from your Back to School Night packet). We continued to use the sight words “I” and “am”, and added the word “red” to our list.  The Take Home Book this week is “Am I?”  The Take Home Book should be read at home each weekend.  Again, your child does not need to be able to read the children’s names in the book themselves, but should be able to tell you the first letter in the name if you point to it.  We also clapped out the syllables in a word, and talked about the setting of a story.

In Math we continued to count and write numbers 1-5.  We used the Smartboard to count, write numbers, and do connect the dots!

In Science we read a book and began learning a song about the seasons.

We are currently working on a paper plate apple painting project.  You’ll see this in your child’s scrapbook we will be building throughout the year.

Next week we will start the OREO project in math.  This is a fun project using Oreo cookies and counting.  We will be connecting with other kindergartens from across the US to compare our results.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hello Families!
Don’t forget to join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 16th at 7:00pm!
We are in need of snack donations for the class. Any healthy snack would be appreciated! (Crackers, fruit snacks, pretzels, etc. NO CANDY).
If your child needs to eat breakfast at school they need to arrive no later than 9:00am.  We have many more students eating breakfast this year, and some of our boys and girls are getting to class late because they are arriving late for breakfast.
Please continue to stress the importance of listening and not talking when teachers are talking.  We have a large group of 20 this year and the room gets very LOUD.  Some of us are missing directions or parts of entire lessons because they are constantly talking.  We haven’t been able to get to as many fun activities as we had planned because of the constant talking and noises.  Your children have plenty of time to socialize at lunch, recess, and playtime.  We know Kindergarten is a HUGE change from preschool and we try to make that transition as easy and fun as possible.
This week in Language Arts we introduced letters A, B, C, D, and E.  We will introduce all the letters quickly in the first few weeks, then go back and study them more in depth.  We learned to read the words “I” and “am”.  The Take Home Book this week is “Who Am I?”  The Take Home Book should be read at home each weekend.  Your child does not need to be able to read the children’s names in the book themselves, but should be able to tell you the first letter in the name if you point to it.  We also practiced writing our first names, rhyming words, and identifying characters in a story.
In Math we worked on counting out loud to 10, counting groups of 1, 2, and 3, and writing the numbers 1, 2, and 3.
Next week, we are hoping to be more settled in our routines and begin math centers with games, Science (learning about weather), and do an art project!
Thank you for all your support!
Enjoy your weekend!

Hello Families!

We had a busy and exciting first few days of school!  This week, we will be settling more into our usual routines.  Here are a few reminders and notes:

*Doors open at 8:55am. All students enter on the playground side.  Students are now to report directly to the classroom at the bottom of the stairs.  If your child needs to eat breakfast, they need to tell Mrs. Banker as soon as they enter the room.

*If you have not returned your forms for the office, please do so ASAP.

*Please let us know of any day to day changes in how your child will be picked up.  If they usually walk and will be picked up by car instead, we need to know which door to dismiss your child from.

*Everyone did a great job adjusting during the first two days.  A few things the class needs to work on as a whole this week:

*Not talking when an adult is talking.  Many of the boys and girls are a having a very hard time with this when we are speaking to the whole group, and not directly to them.

                *Raising hand before calling out.

*Following directions given by an adult.  Saying “no” or “I don’t want to” are not appropriate responses.

                *Walking when indoors.

*Using an “inside voice”.  We have 20 students this year.  It can get very noisy!

We know Kindergarten is a huge change from Preschool.   Mrs. Banker and I will always help and support you and your child any way we can.  Please let us know how we can help!

Schedule this week:

Monday – Art, Tuesday – Library and Gym, Wednesday – Music, Thursday – Gym, Friday- Art

Have a wonderful week!
