Hello Families!

We are in need of snacks for the classroom again. Please try to bring in something healthy – ex. Pretzels, goldfish crackers or anything beaked.

This week in Language Arts we worked on the letter “I”. We used words beginning with “I” and with the short I sound in the middle such as “dig” and “pig”. Our sight words for the week are “for”, “green”, and “he”.
The Take-Home book this week is “Tim the Pig”.
We have been reviewing sequencing a story (putting the events in order).

In Math we begin our subtraction unit. We've been subtracting with objects and showing subtraction by crossing out items.

Friday, December 20 will be our last day of school before the winter break. Friday the 20th is a full day of school.

Enjoy your weekend - only 18 shopping days left until Christmas!

This week in Language Arts, we worked on words with short a (like "apple" and "ambulance") and with short a in the middle (like "cat" and "map").  We also reviewed letters "S" and "D".  Our two new sight words are "have" and "is".  The 3 Take Home Books are "I Have!", "The Little Mat", and "Tam in the Garden".  We are still working on nouns (People, places, things, animals), and learned about adding -s or -es to the end of a noun to mean more than one (ex. dog, dogs).  Our stories this week were about plants and flowers.  We identified the parts of a plant (flower, stem, leaf, seed, fruit, bud).

In Math, we are sorting and grouping objects by how they are the same (size, shape, color, etc.)  We are working on memorizing our additon facts for +0, +1 and +2.

In Science, we read about trees in different seasons.

Hello Families!

Good News!  Thanks to Bacon School’s Home School Association, we are now able to lower the student cost of the Pumpkin Patch Trip to $5.00!  If you have already paid the full cost, we will be refunding you $3.50.  If you have not paid yet, please have the money in as soon as possible.

Next week is our Week of Respect.  In your child’s folder you will find information on the activities that will be going on next week.

On Wednesday, we had a visit from the Millville Fire Department.  We talked about smoke detectors, Stop, Drop, and Roll, having a meeting place in the yard in case of a fire, and practiced crawling under the smoke.  We saw all the firefighter gear and the brand new fire truck!

I am having some technical issues uploading the video.  I will keep trying! Check back!

This week your child has 3 Take Home Books – “The Little Friends”, “Am I Little?” and “At the Zoo”.  We introduced letters T-Z and letter sounds for M and N.  We continued to work with the words “the” and “little”.  We are also starting to recognize color words “red” and “yellow”.  Next week we will work with “orange” and “black”.  We will be sending home song lyrics for our color songs soon!  We also learned that grouping items that are similar (color, size, shape, etc.) is called categorizing.  We continued to identify characters and setting of a story.

In Math, we worked on counting and writing numbers 6-10.  We are comparing groups to find which is greater or fewer.

Next week we will start our science unit on weather and seasons.

September 9th-September 13th

We are so excited to be starting our first full week of school!  We had a great first day on Friday!

This week we will be starting our Language Arts centers in the morning.  Students will have whole-group instruction in phonics, letters, vocabulary, and sight words.  We will also have a read-aloud.  Then we break up into small groups for the rest of the morning.  Students rotate through centers.  I do Guided Reading, reviewing the skills taught in whole group, and practicing those skills in a short story students will read themselves.  Mrs. Banker usually works on phonics, handwriting, or other review games.  Students not working with either of us will rotate between computer center (phonics and letter games, read-along stories), listening center (follow along with a read-aloud CD), letter or word puzzles, writing center (practice letters or words with various materials (stamps, markers, wipe-off tracing, letter tiles), and library center (read quietly to yourself or a friend).

In Math we will work on counting and writing numbers 1-5 this week.  We will begin Math centers next week.

Our schedule so far (subject to change until the schedule is finalized)
 Monday - Day B - Art
