Hello Families!

Don't Forget Swimming this week - Thursday March 26th!

Your new Take Home Book is due on Friday. Thanks so much for returning them on time this week!

There will be no school NEXT FRIDAY April 3rd.  Spring Break is Monday April 6 thru Friday April 10th. School Resumes on Monday April 13th.

This week in Language Arts, we will continue to work on the story "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".  We will use puppets to act out the story, create a story map showing characters, setting, and sequence, and compare this version of the story to other versions.

In Math, we continue to work with "teen" numbers (10 plus another number), and review our addition facts.

In the next two weeks we will being testing our sight words for the third marking period.  You will receive a list of words your child needs to practice over the break to be retested when we return.

Hello Families!

Don’t Forget Swimming on Thursday, March 19th!

This week in Language Arts, we will be working on words that begin and end with the letter G.  We are continuing to put story events in order (beginning, middle, end – sequence).  We are working on using complete sentences in our writing, and making sure each sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period or question mark.

In Math, we are finishing our unit on adding groups up to 10.  We will begin our next two units on “teen numbers”, and be able to show a teen number is 10 plus another number. Ex. 15=10 +5.  We also have a special St.  Patrick’s Day graphing activity with a yummy snack!  We will be sending home an extra set of flash cards this week to continue practicing memorizing our addition facts with answers to 5.

In Science we will read about the life cycles of various animals (chickens, horses, frogs, butterflies).

Hello Families!

Thank you so much to all who have been coming to watch at swimming lessons!  We are also very proud of how independent our students have been getting changed in the locker room.  5 more lessons to go!

This week in Language Arts, we will be working on words with letter H, words with short a and short o (ex. Hat, map, top, cot), adding the words “are”, “that” and “do” to our list, identifying naming parts of sentences (who or what the sentence is about), and putting pictures in the right order to tell a story.

In Math, we are continuing to work on addition.  We are now finding different ways to make a number (number families ex. 5=1+4, 5=2+3, 5=0+5).  We are also working on memorizing our addition facts.  We have been practicing +0 (0+0, 1+0,2+0, 3+0, 4+0, 5+0) and +1 (0+1, 1+1, 2+1, 3+1 and 4+1).

In Social Studies, we read about George Washington and learned that he was our first president, and his picture is on the dollar bill and quarter.  This week we will learn about Abraham Lincoln.

Swim permission slips will go home this week.  Swimming begins February 5th!  Your child will need a bathing suit and towel.  More information will be sent home with the permission slips this week.

Welcome Back!  We hope you had a wonderful holiday break!

Please remember to continue to dress for the cold!  We will be going outside on days it is not raining or below freezing.

Permission slips for our February and March swimming lessons will be going home this month.
NOW is the time to practice changing for swimming.  Your child MUST be able to dress themselves to participate in swimming.  More information will be sent soon.

Thank you to all who came to our report card conferences.  I enjoyed speaking with all of you!  If you could not make your conference, please get back to me as soon as possible. We can schedule a conference right before or after school, or a phone conference if that is not possible.

This week we will be working on letters L, H, and K.  We will add the sight word “green” to our list. 

In math, we will begin working on reading, writing, and counting numbers 11-20.

We will also be having presenters from the Cumberland County Office of Child Abuse Prevention visiting to talk about bullying.

Hello Families!

Upcoming Dates: Tomorrow Tuesday, November 11th – World Run Day – PLEASE WEAR SNEAKERS and RED, WHITE, and BLUE!  The entire school will be running for 30 minutes to promote healthy living and celebrate Veterans Day!

In Language Arts we have been working on letters S, R, and E.  We have added the words “have” and “is” to our list.  We have been tapping out (sounding out words with short “a” and –at, -am, and –ap endings.  We have also been learning about nouns (people, places, things, animals), and that names need a capital letter at the beginning.

In Math we have finished reading, writing, and counting up to 10.  We are now working on telling whether groups have more or less than 5, or more or less than 10.

In Science we are beginning our unit on plants.
